Oh no! It looks like something went wrong on the file sharing site. I'll see if I can fix it online, but if I need to reupload we're out of luck, as I'm not currently with my computer! If you click through the link where I adapted the recipe from, she also has some printable labels!

Hmm. I can't be entirely sure what went wrong, but what you described to me sounds like you did it correctly! Sometimes it can take a long time, and it will thicken a little. It shouldn't be a huge mess once hardened as a whole piece, but it can be quite messy once broken up. I can't really get more detailed with instructions, as there really isn't anything else you do when you make this. I would imagine your caramel would still have the correct taste, as long as it wasn't burnt! Hope that helps.

I love this recipe! But I did want to use the printables for my jars. Am I doing something wrong because it keeps coming up as an error on my computer? =(

I make caramel with just sugar, and I think it works just as good. I always make caramel brittle with sesame seeds, and it is phenomenal. Maybe corn syrup may create a difference, but using sugar tastes pretty caramelized to me! Btw this looks and sounds(and soon tastes) amazing. I have to make this ASAP. These are such a great gift!

Ok so apparently I'm the biggest fool in the world because I failed miserable at making the caramel. I'm not sure if I cooked it long or not long enough or just the wrong way. So here's what I did... Brought 2 1/2 cups of sugar and 1 1/4 water to a boil, stirred until sugar dissolved. This is where I got alil confused because the directions weren't very specific. I kept it at a boil and swirled ever couple minutes. It was at least 30 min befor it turn a light amber color so I kept it going for a while longer then it got super thick but I kept it on because it wasn't dark yet. After awhile of nothing but the thickness changing I took off. I added the vanilla and poured. It was a wierd sugary mess when it hardened... I don't know.... Can you give me more detailed instructions, please?

I'm sorry that you think that, but it actually does! I have never made a caramel with corn syrup - it isn't necessary! This recipe is not to make an actual caramel like a soft candy - it's just the caramelized sugar that you then grind up for the caramel flavor. I hope that helps - it is not a fail! :)
