Lavender Lemonade

June 15, 2016

Warmer days mean refreshing beverages are so so necessary right now.  This lavender lemonade is perfect for summer days.  Serve it at picnics, wedding showers, or birthday parties — you really can’t go wrong with this drink!  Make it into a cocktail with a shot of vodka (or bourbon, if you’re like me) and enjoy yourself!

This lavender lemonade is made with that DIY Lavender Syrup we made last month.  This really could not get easier — you have that stash of lavender syrup already in the fridge, ready to go, and all you need to add is some lemon juice and water.  Done.  You’ve got yourself one delicious, lightly sweet and refreshingly sour drink with the lovely, subtle floral taste of lavender.  Add a pretty straw and you’re ready to go!

This is my favorite way to use lavender syrup, as lavender pairs so so well with the light citrus flavor of lemons.  Lavender also goes well with limes, but I think they’re a bit too sharp in flavor and you kind of lose the lavender in it.  Lemon is just the perfect amount of tartness to complement the softness of the lavender flavor.  It’s your perfect summer sipper!  We’ll be serving this up at my sister’s bridal shower later in the summer — I mentioned previously that her wedding is very lavender themed, so this is perfect to go right along with it!

To make this into a cocktail, feel free to play around with different liquors to suit your tastes.  Vodka is probably the best, as it allows the lemon and lavender to really shine through without seeming too boozy.  If you’re a fan of more flavor to your alcohol, bourbon is another great choice — it basically tastes like a whiskey sour but with a slightly “softer” taste… less tart and just a little more floral.  So delicious.  I always like to have fun trying different things for cocktails, so feel free to test different liquors and flavors, and be sure to report back here what you thought tasted best!! 😉

Now, the recipe for this lavender lemonade so we can get this summer started!

What is your favorite cold beverage on a hot day?
