Healthy Mocha Mousse

September 16, 2016

What’s better than a healthy mocha mousse full of ingredients you can feel good about?  This rich and creamy (and good for you) mocha mousse is a snap to whip together for an afternoon treat, late night dessert, or after a grueling workout session!

Today, I’ve teamed up with OLLY to share this treat using their new OLLY Smoothies!  I love a good meal replacement/protein powder for my day-to-day, whether it’s as a quick shake for lunch before heading into a busy day in the pharmacy or as a refueling post-workout shake!  OLLY’s new smoothie line fits all of my requirements for those perfectly — good flavors (hello chocolate and mocha!!), plant-based protein (lactose-intolerance does not make my belly happy with anything else), natural sweeteners, and plenty of fiber and healthy fats.

My go-to smoothie using these powders is a combination of almond milk, a few ice cubes, a scoop of peanut butter, a few handfuls of spinach, and 2 scoops of powder!  Such a great way to keep me going through busy days or refuel me after an intense workout.

Because you don’t ALWAYS want the same old, boring smoothie, I decided to whip up this chocolate mousse using the cafe mocha AND chocolate flavors of OLLY’s new smoothies!  A little more energy never hurt, right?!  😉  If you aren’t a coffee fan, you can always use just the chocolate flavor because it is just as delicious!

All you need to make this smoothie is Greek yogurt, cocoa powder, OLLY cafe mocha and chocolate, liquid stevia (or any other sweetener you prefer), vanilla, and some melted dark chocolate chips for good measure.  Blend it all up, and you’ve got yourself one wicked rich, chocolatey treat.

The Greek yogurt adds a nice tang that keeps the mousse from being too rich from the deep chocolate flavor.  If you aren’t a fan of super tangy flavor, go with a regular yogurt for a little less of the tart flavor that is more pronounced in Greek yogurt.  You will be sacrificing a bit of protein, though!  The mocha gives it the perfect bit of edge to smooth out the tang and soften the chocolate.  YUM.

OLLY is also hosting an awesome giveaway where you can win a 6-month supply of their OLLY Smoothies, Target and Athleta gift cards, and an awesome new blender!  You also get a $5 off coupon to Target just for entering, and who doesn’t love a Target gift card? 😉

Now, go whip up some of this mousse!  You won’t regret it.

serves 2

Healthy Mocha Mousse

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 3 Tbsp cafe mocha OLLY Smoothie powder (about 2 scoops)
  • 3 Tbsp chocolate OLLY Smoothie powder (about 2 scoops)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp liquid stevia, to your taste (or between 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup maple syrup or other sweetener)

Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave at 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted. Allow to cool slightly.

In the bowl of a food processor or high powered blender, combine all ingredients except for the liquid stevia. Pulse until smooth and creamy.

Add the liquid stevia, beginning with 1/4 teaspoon, and adding more at 1/8 teaspoon increments until it suits your tastes (my sweet spot is at 1/4 tsp + 1/8 tsp total). Blend again until completely smooth.

Spoon the mousse into 2 individual cups and either serve immediately or refrigerate for about an hour to allow it to firm up slightly. Top with cacao nibs and/or chocolate chips if you would like, and enjoy!
