Cherry Quinoa Bars

July 11, 2012

As I purchased a protein bar with the least offensive ingredients last week, resulting in the worst tasting bar I’ve ever had, I realized I really needed to replenish my store of healthy power bars and granola bars.  Since I just got a big bag of quinoa while I was home, I figured I ought to try out some quinoa bars.  I tend not to use my quinoa often because it’s so expensive around here, with few options of places to purchase it.  Now I’m excited to try lots of quinoa recipes!

These bars are perfect for snacking throughout the day or having as part of a meal when you’re on the run.  Made with simple, whole ingredients, these are full of fiber, protein, and healthy fats.  They’re totally fruit sweetened, so you don’t have to worry about crashing from a sugar high like you would with most other candy bar like granola bars that you’ll find at the grocery store.

Harry Potter Kindle and iPhone Covers

July 10, 2012

Over the weekend, I went home to throw my cousin a bridal shower with the rest of the bridesmaids.  It was super busy, and I think I’ve finally fully recovered.  Today, I was really in the mood to clean, read, and craft.  After a few errands, I let everything else fall to the wayside and crafted all day long.  My sister pinned a Harry Potter kindle cover on Pinterest over the weekend, and immediately made me look at it.. I got really excited, because it looked SO easy to make!!  I had a ton of black felt stashed away in the closet from when I made some coasters a while back, so I quickly grabbed some ruby, goldenrod, and tan felt from JoAnn Fabrics today and set to work.

For the Harry side, I followed the style of the original cover pretty much exactly.  The measurements for the Kindle was 19x14cm and 14x8cm for the iPhone.  I just did the shapes freehand, but I did use some measurement for the scarf squares.  For the Kindle cover, the rectangles are 2x1cm, with the two yellow end pieces 1x1cm, and for the iPhone cover, the rectangles are 1×0.5cm. Chocolate Banana Muffins (Gluten Free)

July 5, 2012

I recently finished reading the Fifty Shades trilogy. Having heard a bit about it, I figured I was prepared for how raunchy it would be. After the first fifty pages or so, I had convinced myself that Christian Grey was going to be some supernatural creature, a monster of some sort. To say I was shocked by what he actually is would be a complete understatement.. It was hard to wrap my head around, honestly. But once I got past that, the books were actually alright – I can never start a book without finishing it, and then you know, it ends up being a trilogy, so three books later… Definitely not the best written of books, much like the Twilight series, but it’s just about what you would expect from that genre.

Anyway. These muffins. I quickly threw them together last night, around midnight, after realizing I had nothing to eat for breakfast before work the next morning. I had two way too ripe bananas, so muffins it was. Having no nuts to make banana nut muffins, I quickly decided on chocolate, and I’m very pleased I did!
